Man rescued after jumping off bridge

CEBU, Philippines - A man attempted to end his life Saturday afternoon by jumping off the Mandaue Mactan Bridge.

Andre Compayan, 30, single, of sitio Bohol-bohol in barangay Looc, Mandaue City was rescued by a passing motorized banca after plunging into the water. 

He was taken to the Mandaue City Hospital. 

Desk officer PO1 Melvin Pelayo of the Opao police station said Compayan had alleged that he tried to end his life because he had no money to buy anti-rabies vaccines.

But Compayan’s mother said her son was beaten by a dog when he was still six years old.

She also said her son was once confined at the National Mental Hospital.  (FREEMAN)
