CEBU, Philippines - The Talisay City council has approved the creation of an information technology (IT) department and merging it with the Management Information System (MIS).
“Talisay City is an emerging city in the south in terms of economic infrastructure development and business establishment and there is a need of formation of information technology department,†said Councilor Aldin Diaz.
In a resolution, Diaz said an IT department can address any computer software problems, website maintenance, solutions, and recommend replacements.
Diaz was an executive representative to the city’s Information Technology Department appointed by Mayor Johnny De los Reyes and currently the chairman of the city council’s committee on communication and information technology.
Diaz also said the IT department will be responsive to the IT needs of every department.
With the approval of the IT department, the proposal of Councilor Doroteo S. Emit on the proposed memorandum of agreement with any competent computer company that can provide an integrated and comprehensive computerization program will push through.
Emit said he wants to upgrade the technology system on comprehensive computerization program of city hall in order to raise the standards and competency in the delivery of public service.
Emit said the technology system currently adopted by the city treasurer’s office, accounting office, budget office, the human resource office, city assessor’s office, permits and licenses section, local housing section, city engineering office, and the general services office are undoubtedly outdated.
A comprehensive computerization program will link all the departments and ensure efficient document tracking, effective payroll system, improved processing of business, building, fencing, and other permits. (FREEMAN)
