Talisay tries to hasten release of job order workers’ salaries

CEBU, Philippines - At the Talisay City hall, four department heads have been asked to explain the delay in the release of wages of job order workers every payday.

Mayor Johnny de los Reyes and the administrator of the city have been criticized because of this issue.

Memorandum No. 2013-0054 was addressed to city human resource department heads Hazel Bathan, city budget officer Edgar Mabunay, city accountant Viluzminda Villarante, and city treasurer Emma Macuto.

Last week, Erick Auza, ad hoc district chairman of Centrist Democratic Party of the Philippines and president of Sustainability Initiatives, Inc., expressed his dismay saying that the city has not found an efficient way of disbursing and releasing job order workers’ wages.

In his letter complaint, Auza said the job orders are forced to form a line along a narrow hallway of the building which stretches to the ground floor.

In his one-page memorandum, city administrator John Yre De los Reyes said the department heads are responsible for the promptness of the payroll process.

“The undersigned expects that payroll schedules are distributed on time and employees shall receive their salaries without any delay,” Delos Reyes said.

De los Reyes said schedules of payroll are not properly established by the department concerned. “Implementing the payroll schedule still impedes the employees anticipation of their salaries,” the city administrator said.

De los Reyes directed the four department heads that payroll schedules be adjusted to coincide with the work schedules processing time between the cut-off time and the issuance of the pay check. â€“ (FREEMAN)
