CEBU, Philippines - At least three former city councilors in Lapu-Lapu City will run for village chief in the upcoming Sangguniang Kabataan and barangay elections in October.
Ahong Chan, Damian Gomez, and Rudy Potot have expressed interest in seeking the barangay captain position.
Chan will run for barangay captain in Pajo, one of the biggest barangays in the city while Potot will run in Looc.
Gomez, who was a former provincial board member and city councilor and currently Lapu-Lapu Tourism commissioner, will run in Pusok.
In an interview with The Freeman, Chan said he will try his luck in the barangay after seeing that there was no improvement in Pajo for nine-years.
“Tungod kay pakyas sila sa pagpangalagad,†Chan said.
The Commission on Elections expects political rivalries in the upcoming barangay elections to be more intense and personal than the recent national elections.
Earlier, President Benigno Aquino III disapproved the proposal of the Comelec to suspend the barangay elections in October. (FREEMAN)
