Talisay officials eat fish at public market

CEBU, Philippines - To put to rest suspicions of contamination, Talisay City officials went yesterday to the Tabunok public market to eat fish and other marine products.

Talisay City Councilor Antonio Bacaltos Jr. told The Freeman that fish vendors are complaining that their sales have been affected by the sinking of MV St. Thomas De Aquinas after colliding Friday evening with cargo vessel Sulpicio Express 7 at the Lawis Ledge in Talisay City.

Bacaltos said consumers fear that the fish sold is contaminated with the spilt oil.

Bacaltos said to show the public that the fish and other marine products sold are safe to eat, they bought squid and other sea foods and then had these cooked and they later ate together inside the market.

He said most of the fishes that at being sold in the market in Talisay come from other places such as Bohol and Bantayan.

Bacaltos said the public should not worry (FREEMAN) .
