The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Schools, companies, and individuals in the United Kingdom donated last week a total of 300 desk computers, laptops, printers, projectors, and other accessories for public schools in Mandaue City.

Dubbed as “Project 300”, the donation was initiated by James Lewis and his wife Cherry who is a Mandauehanon. The couple resides in Westbury, U.K.

“We would like to contribute to the improvement of classroom instructions in the city,” said Lewis who is teaching in one of the schools in Westbury, Bristol.

According to Lewis, more and more donations came after their project was published in a local daily called “White Horse.”

“We feel a sense of duty to help the public school children,” said Cherry, a teacher of Fairfield Farm College in Westbury.

According to the couple the donation came in “Balikbayan” boxes, adding many more are coming this year.

Department of Education (DEPED) Mandaue City Schools Division Superintendent Virginia Zapanta said the donation will be given to the schools which need it most.

These include the schools in Cubacub, Leonard Wood in Jagobiao, Bakilid, Tingub, among others as well as the technical-vocational department of Mandaue City College.

Zapanta expressed her gratitude to the couple and donors saying the donation will really help improve the quality of education. (FREEMAN)
