CEBU, Philippines - The market vendors in barangay Tabunok, Talisay City have split into two groups: one in favor of going back to the Tabunok public market, while the other is against it or until the city government builds a new market building.
Nora Dadula Carlos said vendors in Tabunok vendors who now occupy the market show no respect to the city government.
She said they allegedly forced the mayor to allow them to occupy the market although the building looks cluttered.
Mayor Johnny De los Reyes said he gave in to the wishes of these vendors who comprise the group that favored occupying the building.
These vendors comprise those who sell fish, meat, vegetables, and dry goods.
But the mayor said he had signed a memorandum of agreement with the vendors.
The MOA obliges the city to reinstall water and power and repair the comfort room.
Aside from it, the city will not spend for the renovation of the old market building and the market administrator is tasked to assign stalls to the vendors.
But the city is not obliged to refund any expenses made by the vendors for the renovation of their stalls as soon as the old building is demolished to give way to a new market building.
De los Reyes added that within this year the schedule of the demolition of the old market building. (FREEMAN)
