JVR, funeral parlor sign agreement

Garry B. Lao - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Talisay City Mayor Johnny De los Reyes and the Saint Francis Memorial Homes have entered into a memorandum of agreement to make it easier for underprivileged residents to avail of burial and funeral assistance.

“It is the desire and intent of the local government unit of the City of Talisay to serve its constituents by way of providing burial assistance to indigent constituents,” a resolution authorizing De los Reyes to sign the agreement reads.

The assistance can be better facilitated through a tie-up with a mortuary service firm such as St. Francis Memorial Homes, which expresses interest and willingness to coordinate with the city in providing a pauper burial/mortuary service to deserving indigent families, the resolution said.

“The implementation of the city’s program aims to provide economic relief to underprivileged city residents in their moments of grief,” city information officer Vince Monterde said.

As provided under both agreements, the city government, through the social services and development, shall oversee the identification of qualified indigent residents who shall benefit from the program. (FREEMAN)
