CEBU, Philippines - Based on reports received by Police Regional Office (PRO)-7 director Chief Supt. Marcelo Garbo Jr. the Korean national who was shot dead in Mandaue City was allegedly a member of the Korean mafia.
However, the information is yet to be validated by intelligence operatives of the regional headquarters, Garbo said.
“That is according to the persons we interviewed but it has yet to be validated,†Garbo said.
Garbo said the police are taking the case seriously considering the close relationship of the Korean government with the Philippines.
The Korean government has sent a Korean police officer to Cebu province to look after Koreans in Region 7.
Yi Sung Jung, police said, was shot dead Saturday along A.S Fortuna Street in barangay Banilad, Mandaue City.
His peers say Yi Sung’s income came from cars he sold for friends.
His ashes were flown to Suwon City in South Korea Wednesday by his younger brother after the cremation at Rolling Hills Funeral Homes.
But before his brother left, he surrendered to the Investigative and Detective Management Bureau (IDMB) a cal.22 gun the police found in his vault at a hotel where he had been staying. (FREEMAN)
