Mandaue, Dumaguete to ink sister-city relationship

CEBU, Philippines - The Mandaue City council has approved a resolution which seeks to establish a sisterhood pact with Dumaguete City.

The resolution, proposed by Mandaue City Councilor Diosdado Suico, was approved last Wednesday.

It states that Mayor Jonas Cortes is convinced that many things can be learned from Dumaguete that can be be adopted by Mandaue.

Last June 14, Dumaguete City Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria and 23 other elected officials and department heads made a courtesy call to Mayor Jonas Cortes.

“The two local chief executives conceived an idea of forging a sister-city relationship for mutual benefits among the two local government units,” the Suico resolution states.

The visitors were oriented about Mandaue City’s development approaches, as well as the city’s economic, social, physical, administrative, and political profile.

“For the plan to start moving, a legislative measure to guarantee the validity of action is substantially required to manifest and seal our intention justifying the idea to forge a sister-city relation with Dumaguete City,” the resolution said. (FREEMAN)
