Garry B. Lao - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - At least 30 day care workers, kindergarten teachers, and parents in Liloan town, Cebu took part in a five-day training seminar, designed to develop the quality of teaching.

The seminar was sponsored by the Dolores Aboitiz Children’s Fund (DACF) of Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (RAFI) and the Lingap Bulilit program of Miriam College of Quezon City.

Instructors from Miriam College shared practical knowledge and hands-on activities in areas such as curriculum planning, production of instructional materials, arts and crafts, and music and movement.

Participants then engaged in group discussions and role playing to improve their skills in behavior management and parent relations.

Half of a day was reserved for a parenting seminar for parents of day care pupils.

Parents participated in the lecture-discussions on parenting styles and family and values education.

The activity was part of DACF’s capacity building program, which aims to improve the quality of early childhood education by providing training and workshops to day care center teachers and parents. (FREEMAN)
