CEBU, Philippines - Talisay City Councilor Edward S. Alesna, chairman of the committee on market and slaughterhouse, is pushing for the conversion of the Lagtang public market into a technical-vocational school.
Alesna said the Lagtang public market will be closed on June 30, and as manifested in a resolution, for the reopening of the old Tabunok public market after the city council approved the transfer of Lagtang Public Market to the Tabunok Public Market.
Alesna said it is necessary for the city to create a technical-vocational school in order to afford the less fortunate constituents to take vocational courses so that they can find immediate employment after their training and they can finance their further study in the future and thus improve the economic status of each family and constituent.
Cebu first district Representative Eduardo Gullas was the first one who proposed to convert the Lagtang public market into a technical-vocational school.
“The education system in the City of Talisay embraces formal and non-formal education and includes education opportunities, that would facilitate the achievement of specific learning objectives,†Alesna said.
Alesna added the city government must invest heavily in basic education and technical-vocational education and training in order to prepare and build an industrial work force.
“The Department of Education-Talisay in coordination with TESDA Region VII will offer technical-vocational (TEC-VOC) school in the City of Talisay, Cebu and Lagtang Public Market is an ideal site for the technical-vocational school,†he said. (FREEMAN)
