Floods continue to pester some parts of Mandaue
CEBU, Philippines - Mandaue City can’t seem to lick its flooding problem despite the implementation of projects aimed at preventing it.
Architect Florentino Nimor, head of the City Planning and Development Office, said he will ask the Mandaue City government and the Department of Public Works and Highways to jointly evaluate the projects designed for this purpose.
M.C. Briones Street, particularly at the boundary of barangays Maguikay and Ibabao, was flooded Wednesday for at least an hour despite the recently completed drainage system.
A.S. Fortuna Street was also flooded and Nimor said a culvert had obstructed the drainage at A.S. Fortuna Street.
He said the city has yet to know who placed the culvert there.
The city has recommended that the DPWH build “cross drainage†in the flood-prone area to allow the water coming from the west side of the city to cross the road toward the Mactan Channel.
Nimor said A cross drainage should be built in major road intersections to allow the water caused by rains to cross.
He said the city was supposed to review its drainage master plan early this year but the election ban prevented the city from hiring engineers for the review of the plan. (FREEMAN)
