Village councilor suggests banning bathing near wells

Garry B. Lao - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A councilor of Barangay Bulacao has proposed to ban residents from bathing as well as performing household chores such as washing clothes near artesian wells so as to preserve the potability of the water.

Barangay Bulacao Councilor Edwin Enerian, chairman of the barangay council of laws, said the practice pollutes the environment and sometimes becomes the cause of quarrels among residents.

“Public artesian wells built in this barangay are sources of potable water of some residents,” Enarian said.

A written reprimand will be sent to the violator for his first offense and a fine of P500 will be imposed or render community service for 10-days for the second offense.

For the third offense, violators will be fined P1,000 or compelled to render community service for 15 days or both, depending on the discretion of the court.  (FREEMAN)
