Cebu City hosts dog championships

CEBU, Philippines - Eighty-four dogs competed in the First Philippine Dog Agility Association Championships which ended Sunday evening at Asia Town, IT Park in barangay Lahug, Cebu City.

Twenty-one dogs competed in the Disc Dog Competition and the rest took part in the Standard Dog Agility (Starter and Advanced) Competition.

Dogs and handlers from Obedience Club of Negros, Davao Dog Agility Unified Group, K9 Care Cebu Agility Run Enthusiast, Socksargen Canine Sports Club Inc., Western Mindanao Canine Agility Club, and Better Dog of Manila converged at the open area of Asia Town where the competition was held.

Disc Dog Competition tests the speed and accuracy of the dog.

In the Standard Starter and Advanced Agility Competition there were four categories,namely, 2 inches below,16 inches below, 22 inches below, and 22 inches above wherein dogs are identified according to the categories they should belong.

In the Disc Dog Competition “Sky” of Team Bacolod won 3rd place honors, “Vanilla” of Team Cebu won the 2nd place, and ‘Raven” of Team Bacolod grabbed the 1st place.

In the Standard Starter Agility12 inches below, “Darna” of Team Cebu won 3rd place, “Cookie” of Team Cebu won the 2nd place, and “Aira” “aspin”of Davao went home with 1st place honors.

In 16 inches below group, “Barrack” won 3rd place, “Winsor” won 2nd place, and neophyte “Jazz” of Davao won 1st place.

In the 22 inches below category, “Vanilla” of Team Cebu won the 2nd place and “Masa” won the 1st place.

In 22 inches above class, “Raven” of Team Bacolod won 2nd place and “Dutch” of Team Cebu emerged 1st place winner.

In the Standard Advanced Agility 12 inches below category, “Sky” of Team Bacolod, the wall of fame in Talentadong Pinoy, won the Championship.

In 16 inches below class, “Spice” of Team Cebu came out 3rd place winner, “Carter” of Davao was 2nd placer, and “Jazz” of Team Davao won the 1stplace honors.

In 22 inches below, “Annapurna” of Davao won 2nd place and “Cookie” of Team Cebu won the 1st place.

In 22 inches above group, “Osama” of Team Davao grabbed the 1st place honors.

Cebu City Veterinarian Alice Utlang said the next project she will implement will be to give prisoners a chance to show their skills and talents in taking care of dogs and prisoners who are willing to give their time in bonding with the dogs.

The prisoners themselves will train “asong pinoy” from the city pound.
