Odilao asks bets to help in cleanup

Garry B. Lao - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Talisay City Councilor Bernard Joseph Odilao, chairman of the committee on environment, has appealed to candidates and their followers to remove campaign posters, banners and other paraphernalia after the elections.

Odilao, who is on his third and final term, said that candidates should order their supporter to help the government clean up.

A joint memorandum circular (JMC) issued by DENR, Commission on Elections, and DILG urges local officials, political parties, party-list organizations, candidates and their supporters to adhere to the provisions of Republic Act (RA) No. 9003, or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000.

RA 9003 provides for a systematic, comprehensive, and ecological solid waste management system to ensure the protection of public health and the environment through the adoption of environmentally sound methods like waste avoidance and volume reduction. (FREEMAN)
