Eddiegul: Lagtang public market won’t go to waste

CEBU, Philippines - The new Talisay City Public Market in barangay Lagtang will become an extension of the Talisay City College Technological Vocational when vendors go back to the old Tabunok public market.

“If mabakante ang building, it will not be a white elephant,” first district Rep. Eduardo Gullas said, adding that a public high school will be one of the beneficiaries of the TCC extension-techno-vocational school.

In a press conference yesterday, Gullas said the public market building in Lagtang, called the Macapagal-Gullas market building because it was financed during the term of former president Gloria Macagapal Arroyo, said it will become an extension of the Talisay City College Technological Vocational.

Gullas, who is running for city mayor, said he has already talked with TESDA Secretary Joey Villanueva on the short courses to be offered as soon as the extension school opens.

At least 10 courses will be offered.

These are metal art welding, housekeeping, bread and pastry technology, commercial cooking, bar tending, food and beverages services, consumer electronics, computer hardwork, massage and butchery.

Gullas said he is just waiting for Villanueva’s legal department to review the proposed memorandum of agreement.

However, Gullas said the MOA will most likely be implemented after the elections.

Gullas said a resolution has to be approved by the Talisay City council to allow the transfer of vendors of Lagtang public market to the old Tabunok public market.

Gullas has promised to allow the vendors to go back to Tabunok, if gets elected.

Vendors had opposed their transfer to Lagtang because of the distance involved.

While he is agreeable to the transfer to Tabunok, Gullas said he does not want to do it in haste considering that power, water, and other things have to be taken into account.

“We want to make sure that everything will be in place before the vendors go back,” the congressman said.  (FREEMAN)
