CEBU, Philippines - Rep. Luis Gabriel Quisumbing of the sixth district supports the move of Consolacion Mayor Theresa Alegado to expand the municipal hall of the town.
Quisumbing said it is necessary to carry out more infrastructure projects at this time in order to support the growth of the town.
He said that there is really the need to look for a place to expand to be more responsive to people’s needs considering that the town’s population is increasing and big establishments are now present in Consolacion such as the SM and Fooda.
The size of the town hall can no longer accommodate the needs of the taxpayers.
Earlier, former Consolacion Mayor Avelino Gungob, his daughter Councilor Analee Gungob, and former sixth district representative Nerissa Soon-Ruiz, who is also seeking re-election in the May 13 elections, expressed opposition to demolish the town’s sports complex and build a six-story town hall in its place.
Alegado said building a new municipal town worth is urgent because the town is now growing fast.
However, the Gungobs are against it as the government has spent P10 million for the sports complex built during the former mayor’s term.
Soon-Ruiz said if the sports complex is demolished, the barangay hall in Poblacion and its Poblacion Day Care Center will be affected.
However, Alegado explained that although the town has other properties, the new town hall cannot immediately be built in barangay Laray, the place Gungob had suggested, because it is occupied by informal settlers. (FREEMAN)
