MCPO to help malls conduct robbery drills
CEBU, Philippines - The Mandaue City Police Office is set to conduct robbery drills in malls, the purpose of which is to show security providers in malls how to deal with robberies.
Supt. Josefino Ligan, intelligence chief of MCPO, said the police will coordinate with mall security providers for the drills.
Last Feb. 22, a drill was conducted at the Pacific Mall in barangay Ibabao.
"We hope other malls will follow suit," he told reporters last Thursday.
Although no robbery has occurred in malls in Mandaue, Ligan said malls should not be complacent.
The MCPO conducts a monthly meeting with mall security managers to discuss security concerns and the need to conduct simulation exercises in malls has been raised in these meetings.
Ligan said mall security officials will only have to request the MCPO for a schedule for a drill.
Last January, robbers entered a major mall in Mandaluyong City and held up a jewelry store. (FREEMAN)
