Schools, villages told to revive "dengue brigades"
CEBU, Philippines - The Talisay City council has urged schools and barangays to revive their "dengue brigades" to help prevent the outbreak of the disease.
Councilor Richard Francis F. Aznar and Councilor Eduardo R. Gullas III, in a proposed resolution, said the brigade sees to reinforce the city's intensive drive against dengue.
In 2011, Aznar, who is the chairman in council committee on health, sponsored a measure that would create a dengue brigade.
It requested the Department of Education-Talisay City Division and the 22 barangays to create dengue brigades in their respective jurisdictions.
"Fighting the dreadful dengue requires increased awareness, intensified surveillance, and more aggressive advocacy," Aznar and Gullas said.
They said the campaign urges families, barangay leaders, and youth councils to aggressively seek and clean out possible mosquito breeding sites every week especially in areas where there are high cases of dengue. (FREEMAN)
