ABC of Surigao visits Mandaue
CEBU, Philippines - Members of The Association of Barangay Captains (ABC) of Surigao City are now in Mandaue City to observe its best ecological practices for a two-day congress.
The officials were welcomed by Mayor Jonas Cortes during the opening program at Allure Hotel along A.S. Fortuna last Thursday.
The officials visited the Umapad dumpsite which the city is converting into an eco-park and a sanitary landfill.
Cortes was among the mayors in metro Cebu who pushed for the closure of open dumpsites in local government units as mandated in Republic Act 9003 or the Solid Waste Management Act of 2001.
The law also requires all local government units to create an MRF and assist in the segregation of waste starting from the household level. (FREEMAN)
