Motorcyclist dies in crash at bridge
CEBU, Philippines - A man travelling on a motorcycle died instantly after running into a dump truck at the Mandaue Mactan Bridge yesterday dawn.
Ignacio Lamac, 25, of barangay Carreta, Cebu City and a member of Tactical Security Agency, was declared dead on arrival at the Mandaue City Hospital for head injuries.
The truck driver was identified as Franklin Luardo, 32, of sitio San Miguel, barangay Canduman, Mandaue City.
Luardo’s truck hauled asphalt.
SPO2 Eduardo Flores, traffic investigator of Mandaue’s Traffic Division, said that prior to the incident, Lamac was headed for Mandaue City.
A traffic aide had signaled to Lamac and another motorcycle driver to change lanes because a portion of the lane ahead was being asphalted.
But the motorcyclists ignored the traffic aide.
Lamac’s motorcycle hit the dump truck while the other motorcyclist made it through.
Owing to the speed, Lamac’s helmet was reduced to pieces.
Luardo said any vehicle would have missed his truck because it was parked downward with two other dump trucks pouring asphalt.
SPO2 Flores said it was difficult to determine at the time whether the motorcycle driver was drunk because he died on the spot.
An Eruf ambulance took Lamac to the Mandaue City Hospital but was declared dead upon arrival.
Luardo was issued with a Temporary Operator’s Permit and is temporarily in the custody of the police. (FREEMAN)
