Talisay SP lets firm assess city’s state of solid waste management

CEBU, Philippines - The Talisay City council has allowed EVO Ventures, a group of established companies that is expanding its waste company into a provider of environmental solutions, to assess the state of the Solid Waste Management in the city.

Councilor Bernard Joseph T. Odilao, chairman, Committee on Environment, said EVO specializes on solid waste management and volunteered to initially assess the state of solid waste management in the city for free.

“The EVO Ventures Inc. will submit its assessment after it has done its assessment for our perusal and guidance,” Odilao said.

Odilao said the city has been educating residents on the proper disposal of house waste, by segregating bio-degradable and non-biodegradable.

Talisay’s landfill is an increasingly pressing problem, less and less land is available to deposit refuse, but the volume of waste is growing all time.

“As a result, segregating waste is not just of environmental importance, but an economic concern,” Odilao said.  (FREEMAN)
