Lim, Talisay’s top cop, is allergic to illegal gambling

CEBU, Philippines - Superintendent Elmer Lim, officer-in-charge of the Talisay City Police Station, favors strict rules when it comes to illegal gambling.

He had just turned down all requests from barangays to hold “tigbakay” or cockfights during fiestas.

Lim also dislikes the numbers game “masiao.”

Just last Monday, the police arrested two men in barangay San Isidro for soliciting bets.

Seized from Romeo Dela Torre, 54, of sitio Pang-pang, San Isidro and Jovelyn Ewayan, 20, of Greenville Subdivision, were a booklet used to write down numbers and bets, a calculator, four sheets of yellow paper used as tally sheets, two sheets of carbon paper, a ball pen, and P215.

The two men are detained at the Talisay City detention cell.

Talisay, Toledo City, and Minglanilla town were in the provincial police headquarters’ list of places where “masiao” is well-known.

Lim has not received the latest word from headquarters regarding Talisay’s evaluation on the subject of “masiao.”

Despite the absence of an assessment from headquarters, the police continue to be vigilant.

He is also allergic to card games, heads or tails, known locally as “hantak,” and the computer games “karera” and “mole-mole.”

But Lim said “karera” and “mole-mole” are silent these days. (FREEMAN)
