Korean arrested at checkpoint

CEBU, Philippines - Police arrested and detained yesterday dawn a Korean national at the Centro police station in Mandaue City for damaging a checkpoint signage and berating policemen manning a checkpoint along UN Avenue in barangay Alang-Alang, Mandaue City. 

Do Hyung Park, 44, married, of barangay Basak in Lapu-Lapu City, was arrested by a team led by P Sr /Insp. Alexander Nuñez.

The Korean, while driving in his Honda Civic car with plate No .7CZ-846, accidentally bumped a checkpoint signage.

When Nuñez confronted Park, the Korean uttered some allegedly harsh words including the word “shit.”

The police took Park to the Mandaue City Hospital where he tested positive for alcohol.

He was then issued a Temporary Operators Permit (TOP) for a traffic violation and is temporarily detained at the Centro police station pending the filing of an unjust vexation case against him. 

In another development, a man was arrested at another checkpoint set up by a team led by P/Insp. Antonio Cervantes in sitio Latasan in barangay Labogon, Mandaue City. 

Jesus Ruelo, 30, married, and a resident of barangay Pagsabungan was arrested following a chase that ensued immediately after turning back to avoid the checkpoint.

When police were about to arrest him, he flipped shabu placed in packets over a fence.

Ruelo is now detained pending the filing of charges against him.  (FREEMAN)
