Rains delay Maguikay flyover repair works

CEBU, Philippines - Repair works of the Maguikay flyover will have to be extended for few more days after it experienced delay because of continuous rains in the past days.

The Department of Public Works and Highways informed Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes that the repair works will be extended until February 8. It was supposed to be completed today.

However, project engineer Roy de Guzman said that the continuous rain in the past few days affected the repair works.

De Guzman said they have already completed the excavation of six expansion joints. He said the first expansion joint was completed but could not continue working on the other joints because of the rains.

The P8 million repair work of the 7.2-meter flyover was contracted to MBD Construction Company. The work started last January 24. It was supposed to be completed today.

Because of the delay of the repair works motorists are advised to continue to observe the work schedule to avoid traffic congestion. Based on the schedule released earlier, repair works start at 9 pm to 5 am during week days and 8 pm to 6 am during the weekends.

De Guzman said they have been coordinating with the Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue (TEAM) on traffic advisories. De Guzman hopes to complete the repair by Sunday if the weather will cooperate. – FPL (FREEMAN)
