Talisay admin, opposition bets share table at party
CEBU, Philippines - Politics was set aside in Talisay City after administration and opposition candidates attended a Christmas party in Barangay Pooc last Friday night.
Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas, along with other members of the Alayon Party, shared a table with Valeriano Ylanan and Danilo Caballero of the Liberal Party.
Gullas and his allies councilors Francis Richard Aznar, Rodi Cabigas and Pooc barangay captain Dory Emit are with the administration, while Ylanan and Caballero belong to the opposition.
They were in Pooc for the Christmas party hosted by the Media In Cebu South, a group of reporters covering the Talisay and first district.
In his Christmas message, Gullas said he felt comfortable with the occasion, even sharing a table and eating together with Ylanan and Caballero.
“We may be on different political sides pero kung kaayohan na gani sa Talisay City, andam nato isalikway ang politika,” said the 27-year-old grandson of Rep. Eduardo “Eddiegul” Gullas.
Eddiegul is on his third and last term as congressman, but he is running for Talisay City mayor.
As proof to his sincerity, Gullas said he prepared a gift for Ylanan and Caballero, which he has also distributed to his allies in the first district.
“Dawata kini ninyo Konsehal Val ug Danny akong gamay’ng pinaskuhan,” Gullas said.
Caballero and Ylanan accepted the gift of Gullas. The two opposition members, who are also seeking reelection, said they never talk about politics while they are at the same table.
Caballero said that they also set aside politics in the spirit of Christmas.
