How tall exactly is Wemby?

NBA BUZZ - Bobby Motus - The Freeman

In the photo, we see San Antonio Spurs legends Tim Duncan and David Robinson with last season’s Rookie of the Year Stephon Castle and Victor Wembanyama.  They are casually standing and not at full attention.

During their careers, Duncan was listed at 6-11, Robinson at 7-1.  Castle is listed at 6-5.  There were confusing variations as to Wemby’s height.   The Spurs listed him at 7-3, and still 21-years-old, he could be growing yet, maybe adding a few more inches to his current height.

Listed player heights are not exactly accurate.   Kevin Durant is listed as 6-11 but many players say he’s closer to 7-1.   Another Kevin, surnamed Garnett, doesn’t want to be listed as 7 feet, so his official height is 6-11.  His late former Minnesota coach Flip Saunders says jokingly that KG is 6-13.

Dallas Mavericks big man Dereck Lively II, who’ll be 22 next month, was listed as 7-1 but he said that he has grown a couple of inches.   Proof that young players still grow in their early twenties.

Oklahoma City Thunder big man Chet Holmgren is officially listed as 7-1 but sometimes, his height also has some variations.

In his third season with the league, Wemby’s height had been fluctuating.  As a prospect three years ago, he was listed as 7-5.  During his rookie year, he was 7-4.  Last season he recoiled an inch and was listed as 7-3.  This season, he’s back to 7-4.

Former NBA big man and one-time Spurs Boban Marjanovic, who’s 7-4, say that he looks up when he talks to Wemby and think he’s about 7-7.

Going back to the pic, it’s highly unlikely that both Duncan and Robinson had significantly shrunk from their listed heights.   Unless Wembanyama was photoshopped into the frame, he definitely is taller than 7-5.
