One Central Eagles-PICPA chessfest draws strong field of contenders

CEBU, Philippines — Some of the best and brightest chess players in the province will see action in the One Central Eagles Region (TFOE-PE, CVR 16) and Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA)-Cebu Chapter 2-in-1 Rapid Chess Tournament on Sunday, December 1, at the Cebu Chess Club in Robinsons Galleria Cebu.

The past two champions in Allan Pason and John Dave Lavandero banner the list of top contenders that also include International Masters Kim Steven Yap, Joel Pimental and Rico Mascariñas.

Also in the mix for the coveted title are FIDE Master Anthony Makinano, and National Masters Arnolito Cadiz, Rommel Ganzon, Rogelio Enriquez, Jayson Salubre, Leonardo Alidani, Cyril Ortega and Merben Roque.

The champion in the open division of the 9-round Swiss system competition organized by Mora, Sanchez, Meñoza and Associates CPAs in partnership with PICPA-Cebu Chapter and The Philippine Eagles-Central Visayas Region XVI will pocket P10,000.

The second to fifth placers of the one-day tilt supported by Sphinx Consulting Group, Gordon-Mora- Diamante Law Firm and  Siu-Riñen-Latras Attorneys-At-Law will take home P5,000, P3,000, P2,000 and P1,000, respectively. The sixth to 10th will receive P700 and the 11th-15th P500 each.

The top five finishers in the 16 Under age group will claim P5,000, P3,000, P2,000, P1,000 and P700. The rest who will make it to the top 10 will have P500 apiece.

Registration fee is pegged at P250 for the U16 participants and P300 for the open players. Seniors, PWDs, ladies, and those 12 years old and below will enjoy a P50 discount.
