UC Webmasters eye finals berth

The UC Baby Webmasters led by head coach Reggie Licanda pose for posterity after claiming the fourth and last semifinals spot in high school division of the CESAFI Season 24 basketball tournament on Tuesday night, November 26, at the Cebu Coliseum.

CEBU, Philippines — There’s practically no rest for the University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters after competing a historic 8-0 sweep in the elimination round.

Two nights after clinching the No.1 spot and a twice-to-beat advantage in the Final Four, the Webmasters will be back on the playing court right away for a more important mission of punching a championship ticket.

The boys of coach Kernn Sesante hope to achieve that target when they battle against the fourth-ranked University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars in the collegiate division semifinals of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) Season 24 men’s basketball tournament today (Thursday, November 28) at the Cebu Coliseum.

Game time is set at 6:45 p.m.

Displaying another great collective effort led by flashy guards Jepherson Nonol and Zareygel Rosano who combined for 21 points, the Webmasters tamed the Benedicto College (BC) Cheetahs, 53-44, on Tuesday night, November 26, to earn the top seeding and a twice-to-beat edge against the Jaguars in the last round of four.

In seeking a repeat of their 76-58 rout of the Jaguars last October 6, the Webmasters are eyeing for a much bigger prize - a third consecutive trip to the Finals.

In high school play, the top seeded USJ-R Baby Jaguars shoot for an outright finals seat as they take on the UC Baby Webmasters in the 5:15 p.m. opener.

Behind the dazzling double-double show of Carlo Salgarino who netted 19 points and 14 rebounds, the Baby Webmasters escaped with a thrilling 57-55 win over the Cebu Eastern College (CEC) Dragons in their knockout match to claim the fourth and last semis berth.
