CEBU, Philippines — Amado Olea, Jr. clinched the September title of the Cebu Executives and Professionals Chess Association (CEPCA) monthly tournament played over the weekend at Robinsons Galleria Cebu.
Olea tallied the highest output of 5.5 points to take home the P3,500 champion’s purse of the one-day tilt sponsored by CEPCA President Engr. Jerry Maratas.
Additionally, Olea earned a ticket to the grand finals billed as the “CEPCA Battle of Champions” this December.
National Master Rogelio Enriquez Jr., Arena Candidate Master Peterson Sia, and Rosendo Yamyamin ended their campaigns with identical 5.0 points.
Enriquez, however, claimed the P2,000 second prize courtesy of a superior tiebreaker applying the Bucholz system.
Sia and Yamyamin pocketed P1,000 and P700 for placing third and fourth, respectively.
Jessie Supangan got P500 for finishing at solo fifth with 4.5 points.
Carlos Moreno III, Dr. Edwin Cablao, Michael Tinga, Leo Cortes, and NM Arnolito Cadiz rounded up the Top 10 with 4.0 points each. — (FREEMAN)
