Void hands Metro Cars first loss in MPBA Season 3

CEBU, Philippines — Jhon Rey Gequilan erupted for 37 points as Team Void dealt Metro Cars its first loss, 98-92, in the Mandaue’s Pride Basketball Association (MPBA) Commissioner’s Cup Season 3 on Saturday, September 28, at the Cebu Port Authority (CPA) Gym.

Gequilan, who shot 15-of-27 from the field including four 3-pointers, also had eight rebounds, six assists and a steal, while Byron Lawton added 21 points, six rebounds and three assists as Void stayed a solo second spot in the Premier Division with a 4-1 win-loss card.

Doyle Molit was the other double-digit scorer for Void with 15 points, seven rebounds, one assist and one steal.

Dwight Godinez dropped 20 points on top of seven assists, while Sanel Cabalda, Nikko Chavez, and Albert Borling connived for 45 points but their efforts went down the drain as Metro Cars saw its five-game winning streak come to a sudden red stop.

In the other games, Welec obliterated Urestore, 131-97, to even its record at 3-3, while Matia’s Foodhaus improved to 2-2 after blowing away Purexfit Cebu, 117-87.

Etnies Gabato paced Welec with 22 points, four rebounds, and two assists.

Mark Monte and Alexis Pedroso tallied 29 markers in between them, John Paul Banono and Carlo Bacalso each scored 11 while Roel Turno contributed 10 points in Welec’s balanced attack.

Kyle Dajalos delivered a scintillating 35-point show for Matia’s laced with seven boards and six dimes. He was ably backed up by Joshua Himang and Winston Perez who combined for 36 points.
