Shoe store employee, math teacher rule Heroes Run

CEBU, Philippines — Mark Kevin Revilla, a shoe store sales associate, and Joy Anne Cañete, a math teacher, reigned supreme in the 21-kilometer category of the Heroes Run 2024 on Sunday, September 29, at the Waterfront-Cebu City Hotel and Casino in Barangay Lahug.

The 28-year-old Revilla, a member of the Gealon Racing Team who hails from Barangay Sapangdaku, Cebu City, clocked in one hour, 17 minutes and 41 seconds to grab the men’s 21K crown. Neil Labajo finished second with a time of 1:23.04 while Wellsmark Sevillina settled for third in 1:23.25.

In the women’s 21K, Cañete from Lapu-Lapu City came out the fastest with a time of one hour and 53 minutes.

Ana Sheina Nombrado wound up second in 1:55.42 while Jenny Sia Gutang (1:56.44), Justin Aspacio (2:02.01) and Jessa Arenella (2:04.18) occupied the third to fifth spots.

Two other Gealon Racing Team’s bets in Kelvin Boyles and Hazel Caraballe dominated the 10K race.

Boyles topped the men’s side in 39 minutes and 51 seconds followed by Ian Simbajon (39:52) and Ritchie Bunggat (43:58) at second and third, respectively.

Caraballe lorded it over in the women’s 10K in 49:55, with Eugene Calumba (57:30) coming out second and Meriel Saga (58:20) third.

The rest of top three winners were Jerome Tuada (17:54), Kirby Aclan (17:58) and Archie Camaong (19:30) in  men’s 5K, George Laurente (28:24), Razel Nara (29:30) and Scarlet Orbase (29.38) in women’s 5K, Albert Menardo (10:38), Steve Vladener Restauro (10:47), and Rolando Magno (11:52) in men’s 3K, and Melanie Bamba (13:50), Ann Apyag (21:24), and Charez David (21:26) in women’s 3K.

“I would just like to thank everyone who joined the event. Everyone here is a hero in their own right because by joining here, they are also able to help fellow heroes that are in the Naval Reserve Center,” event organizer Marvin Conson said.
