Asilo eyes another WBO belt in first fight abroad

CEBU, Philippines — PMI Bohol Stable’s bantamweight prospect Gerwin “The Gladiator” Asilo will shoot for another regional belt in his first tour of duty on foreign shores.

The pride of Ubay is set to exchange blows with Japan’s Tenshin Nasukawa in an exciting duel of unbeaten fighters on October 14 at the Ariake Arena in Tokyo.

At stake in their scheduled 10-round rumble is the vacant WBO Asia Pacific 118-pound crown.

Asilo, who clinched the WBO Oriental bantamweight title with a smashing second round knockout of Thai Surat Eaim Ong last July 27 at the Bohol Wisdom School gym in Tagbilaran City, holds a perfect 9-0 record spiked with 4KOs.

Likewise, Nasukawa is unscathed in four matches with 2KOs.

Asilo is the only Filipino boxer seeing action in the historic fight card featuring seven championship bouts in two consecutive days. — (FREEMAN)
