Talisay City Mayor’s Cup 2024 to kick off in grand rites today
MANILA, Philippines — Hundreds of athletes will converge today for the grand opening ceremony of the Talisay City Mayor’s Cup 2024 at the Talisay City Sports Complex in Barangay Poblacion.
Mayor Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas Jr., vice mayor Richard Francis “Choy” Aznar, and the rest of the Talisay LGU officials are expected to grace the elaborate kick-off rites that will begin with the traditional parade of athletes at 2 p.m.
Jeanneth Villagonzalo of the organizing Talisay City Sports Commission said the annual sports festival among the Talisaynons will be participated in by all of the city’s 22 barangays.
A total of 78 teams will see action in basketball and 40 in volleyball.
With the addition of the boys 12 Under and the girls U16 3x3, five divisions will be contested in basketball this time.
The rest are the boys U16, U20, and U30.
Volleyball, on the other hand, has three categories - the mixed 12 Under, and the men’s and women’s 20 Under.
The other events such as the volleyball open, boxing, chess, badminton, futsal, sepak takraw, cycling, shooting, table tennis, and push bike will be staged in September and October leading to the city’s annual fiesta celebration in honor of their beloved patroness St. Therese of Avila on October 15.
