CEBU, Philippines — In an effort to boost sports and fitness tourism in Negros Oriental, a series of events and conferences are lined up this September, with world-renowned coaches and seasoned athletes participating in this one-of-a-kind endeavor.

During a press conference in Dumaguete City recently, activities for the PlanOut Sports and Fitness Festival (PSFF) were laid out featuring 22 sports spread out for the whole month of September as well as a two-day conference that aims to gather sporting enthusiasts all over the world and at the same time promote the province as a good location for such undertakings.

PlanOut is a start-up company organizing outdoor sports events. It is composed of athletes and coaches from diverse sports.

PlanOut founder and CEO Kim Llena explained that since they have the technical skills, they want to find ways and means to sustain the promotion of sports and fitness.

The PSFF covers badminton, basketball, softball, table tennis, volleyball, arnis, karatedo, chess, darts, functional training, physical fitness, mountain biking, cycling, running, ultimate frisbee, wall climbing, and Zumba.

Llena said they also want to highlight lesser-known disciplines but are already seeing huge interest like pickleball, roundnet, and even urban camping.

On the other hand, a dozen conferences with expert local and foreign speakers are expected to attract a lot of participants.

Among the topics to be discussed include Functional Training with Coach Tarek Chouja of Functional Training Institute-AU; Fitness Bootcamp and Resilience Training with Coach Ken Weichert of Start Fitness-USA; MMA by Coach Rho Fajutrao; Active Agers by Coach Lita Quisumbing; and Running Biometrics by Coach Junery Andales.

Exhibitions will also be set-up where businesses specializing in sports and fitness can showcase their products and services to potential customers and business partners.
