CEBU, Philippines — The Liloan Tornadoes emerged as the new women s volleyball champion of the Congressman Duke Frasco 5th District Cup 2024 Season 3 on Wednesday, June 26, at the Compostela Sports Complex in Compostela, Cebu.
Behind the explosive performance of Barbie Jamili, the Tornadoes dethroned the defending titlist Catmon Mighty Bakers in four sets, 3-1, in their well-attended championship match.
Jamili went on to claim the Most Valuable Player (MVP) trophy.
The other individual awardees were Alyssa Seledio (best libero), Alyssa Emboy (best server), Cecil Pepito (best setter),
Althea Bacala os (best blocker), and Angelica Salvador (best attacker).
In the battle for third place, the Compostela Team Na May Puso overcame the Carmen Ni os in a five-set thriller.
Meanwhile in basketball, Compostela stunned Liloan via an 84-83 cliffhanger to forge a rubber match in their best-of-three finals. Paolo Gera paced Compostela with 17 points.
They will settle their unfinished business once and for all in a sudden-death duel scheduled at 2 p.m. today (Friday, June 28) at the Carmen Sports and Civic Center.
On the other hand, Kian Luchavez fired 22 points as the San Francisco Lakers shot down the Borbon Gilak Stars, 77-70, to settle for third place honors.
