CEBU, Philippines — The University of Cebu Baby Webmasters led by head coach Joever “Brad” Samonte pay a courtesy call on their biggest supporter and No.1 fan, UC President Atty. Augusto “Gus” W. Go, on Monday, February 19, to formally turn over the three championship trophies they won in separate tournaments recently.

They were joined by UC athletic director Jessica Jawad-Honoridez and assistant coach Robert “Bobby Knight” Inoferio.

“Congratulations! I am happy that from academics, we are now also doing good in athletics,” said Go while expressing full support to the team’s future campaigns.

The Baby Webmasters first trounced the University of the Visayas (UV) Baby Lancers, 68-51, to rule the Batang Pilipino Basketball League (BPBL) Season 2 Cebu Tri-City eliminations last month at the Cebu Coliseum.

Sustaining their momentum, the Baby Webmasters upended the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Baby Panthers-Sherilin, 72-63, to clinch the Under 18 title of the BPBL Season 2 Central Visayas Finals last February 4 at the Carmen Sports and Civic Center in the municipality of Carmen in northern Cebu.

That earned the Baby Webmasters a ticket to the BPBL Season 2 National Championships set on July 22-27 at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

One week later, the Baby Webmasters reaffirmed their dominance over the Baby Panters via an 87-78 decision to reign supreme in the Barangay Punta Fiesta Cup 2024 in Cebu City last February 10.

“Happy and proud kaayo ko sa ako mga players because they always play with a big heart. Determinado kaayo ug dili gyud sila gusto magpapilde,” said Samonte.

“Dako kaayo ni og impact sa team kining amo kadaogan kay this is part of our preparations for the BPBL National Finals. Hopefully we could join more invitational tournaments to give my players more exposure and to boost their confidence going to Manila,” Samonte added. — (FREEMAN)
