CEPCA Open Chess tourney set for May 28

CEBU, Philippines — The cream of the crop in Cebu chess will once again test each other’s mettle through the Cebu Executives and Professionals Chess Association (CEPCA) Summer Open Chess Tournament slated on May 28 at Robinsons Galleria Cebu.

A total of P30,000 in cash prize will be given away to the winners of the 9-round Swiss competition spearheaded by CEPCA as part of the birthday celebration of its longtime president Engr. Jerry Maratas.

The champion will take home P5,000, while the second to fifth placers will pocket P3,000, P2,000, P1,500, and P1,000, respectively. The sixth to 10th will receive P700 apiece, the 11th to 15th P500, while those who will make it to the top 20 will get P300.

There will also be special prizes of P1,500, P1,000, and P500 for the top Cepcans A, P1,000, P700 and P500 for the top Cepcans B, and P700, P500, and P300 for the top boys and girls 14-under players.

The top female and seniors (60-above), on the other hand, will claim P500 each.

Registration fee is pegged at P100 for Cepcans/kids/ladies/seniors and P200 for regular players.

The organizers will be accepting on-site registration only. Those who are interested to join are adviced to be come at the venue at 10 a.m. or an hour before the tournament starts. — (FREEMAN)
