CEBU, Philippines — Karting prodigy William John Riley Tiu Go has once again brought pride to Cebu as he was awarded with The Tony Siddayao Awards as well the Junior Athletes of the Year medal by Milo in the sport of karting at the San Miguel Corporation-Philippine Sportswriters Association (SMC-PSA) Annual Awards Night recently.
Last month, he was also recognized by the Cebu City Government at the 86th Cebu City Charter Day testimonial dinner as one of its “Outstanding Individuals”.
The Philippine Sportswriters Association, the oldest media organization in the country, honored close to 100 of the best and brightest athletes in Phl sports, including Olympic gold medalist and world champion Hidilyn Diaz who was crowned Athlete of the Year.
The 14-year-old Go was a recipient of The Tony Siddayao Award, which is given to young athletes under 18, along with other outstanding performers in archery, gymnastics, karate, swimming and chess.
“I am truly honored and humbled to receive these. It’s a dream come true to represent the Philippines in karting and I hope this inspires other young athletes to pursue their dreams and have that ‘will to win’,” said Go in expressing his gratitude for the three accolades.
Go, who has been karting since he was seven, achieved notable feats in his young career being the first Filipino with podium finishes in three European competitions.
In 2022, he made history as the first Filipino world champion at the ROK Super Finals in Lonato, Italy. He also finished second at the FIA Karting Academy in Genk, Belgium, and third at the WSK Euro Series in Lombardia, Italy.
The Tony Siddayao Awards, the Junior Athletes of the Year medal by Milo, and the recognition from the Cebu City Government are fitting recognitions of Go’s remarkable achievements. It’s a shining testament to his unwavering dedication, passion, and hard work in his craft. — EBV from PR
