CCSC officials to each lead different events

CEBU, Philippines —  To come up with better programs and projects for sports, officials of Cebu City Sports Commission (CCSC) have divided themselves into groups with each commissioner assigned to different events.

Commissioners had been split into two groups with one group to be headed by Councilor Dondon Hontiveros and the other group to be led by SK Federated president, Councilor Jessica Resch.

The two councilors will assist in the implementation of projects and programs, CCSC chairman John Pages told The Freeman.

Aside from that, Hontiveros will also be taking care of archery, arnis, basketball, e-sports, jiu-Jitsu, obstacle course racing, skateboarding, and skating while Resch will have cycling, duathlon/aquathlon, flag football, rugby, running, triathlon, ultimate frisbee, and volleyball.

Together with Hontiveros are fellow Commissioners Chao Sy, Rolly Diorico, Francis Ramirez, and Gayle Dico.

Sy handles billiards and boxing, while Dico has athletics, dancesport, and gymnastics. Diorico picks up dragon boat and Ramirez will have baseball, softball, football, futsal, pencak silat,  sepak takraw and wushu.

On the other hand, with Resch in her group are Commissioners Jessica Honoridez, and Dr.Rhoel Dejano.

Honoridez takes charge of badminton, bowling, chess, scrabble, judo, karatedo, taekwondo,  table tennis, and weightlifting while Dejano will be at the helm of tennis, swimming, bodybuilding, wrestling, fitness, physique and well-being, sports nutrition, and medicine.

Pages and the City Council committee on finance chair, Councilor Noel Wenceslao, will help oversee the different sports.

Commissioners are expected to develop the assigned sports further by coming up with various programs and projects.

To do so, commissioners will have to meet and collaborate with different associations, teams, athletes, and coaches related to the sport.

The commissioners will also serve as point-person in their specific assignments for requests from outside groups and athletes particular to that sport.

With this, coaches and athletes will no longer get confused as to whom to talk to or ask for assistance in their training and competition now that commissioners are given specific assignments.
