Magramo to vie for WBO fly title

CEBU, Philippines —  While the fate of boxing and other professional sports in the country still hangs in the balance due to the clear and present danger by the deadly coronavirus, Filipino boxers continue to seek greener pastures on foreign shores.

One of them is Giemel 'Pistolero' Magramo, who is slated to fight the unbeaten Japanese Junto Nakatani fight for the vacant WBO flyweight title on August 21 at the historic Korakuen Boxing Hall in Tokyo, Japan.

The Magramo-Nakatani showdown will take place a month after Japan Boxing Commission (JBC) restarts boxing on July 22 featuring the 12-round Japanese bantamweight championship between Ryosuke Sawada and Yusuke Suzuki at the same venue.

Magramo and Nakatani thus will gain distinction as the first boxers from their respective countries to figure in a world title bout since the lockdown in March due to the global health crisis.

The 25-year-old Magramo, the reigning WBO International and WBO Oriental flyweight titleholder, holds a 24-1 record with 20KOs while Nakatani is unscathed in 20 fights with 15 victories via stoppage.
