‘Stay Home’ online chessfest slated tomorrow

CEBU, Philippines —  Cebuano chess players have something to look forward to amid quarantine.

This as the Cebu School of Chess will be holding the first ever Stay Home Online Blitz Chess Tournament presented by Salon de Rose on Thursday, April 30.

Starting at 5 pm sharp, games will be played in lichess.org.

Aware of the cheating that marred an online tilt staged by the National Chess Federation  of the Philippines (NCFP) recently, event organizer International Master Kim Steven Yap warned that players caught cheating will be banned in all future Salon de Rose events.

The competition though is open to Cebu-based players only. They will play in a two-hour Arena format with a time control of two minutes plus one second.

The champion will take home P3,000 while the second to fifth will pocket P2,500, P2,000, P1,500 and P1,000, respectively. The sixth to 20th placers will receive P500 each. The top female and kiddie entries will get P1,000.

Registration fee is pegged at P100. For further details, one may contact IM Kim Yap at 0977-686-4660 or at m.me/kimsteven.yap and m.me/cebuschoolofchess. EBV
