The University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters pounded the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Panthers, 79-62, to book a ticket into the last round of four in the seniors division of the 19th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) men’s basketball tournament at the Cebu Coliseum.

UC’s foreign student-athlete Tosh Sesay dished out a monster double-double show with 27 points and 23 rebounds while spunky guard Darell Shane Menina sparkled with 23 points on top of seven assists for the Webmasters, who are already assured of semifinal spot regardless of the outcome of their last two games.

The Webmasters are actually tied with the University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers with similar 6-3 win-loss records but technically they’re  at third place having swept the three-time defending champions in the double round elimination.

Nevertheless, the Webmasters and the Lancers continue their drive for a better positioning with eyes on the No.2 spot as they take on separate foes today.

The Webmasters will go up against the University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors in the main match at 5:00 p.m., right before the Lancers take on the Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) Wildcats at 3:30 pm.

Currently, the Warriors are at second place in the leaderboard with a 7-3 slate, just a full game behind the 7-2 Southwestern University (SWU)-Phinma Cobras.

This means that a victory over the Warriors will bolster the Webmasters’ chances of making it to the top 2 that would give them a twice-to-beat advantage in the semis.

The Lancers aim the same as they tackle the unpredictable Wildcats, who sport a 2-6 card.

Meanwhile in the juniors division, the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) Magis Eagles hope to get back on the winning track as they battle the CIT-U Baby Wildcats in the 12:30 p.m. curtain raiser while the University of Cebu Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue (UCLM) Campus will try to stretch their hot streak to three games when they clash head-on with the Don Bosco Greywolves at 2 pm.

With a 4-2 mark, the Magis Eagles’ Final 4 chances remain bright but breathing down their neck are the Cebu Eastern College (CEC) Dragons and the resurgent University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Baby Jaguars (4-4) and the Greywolves (4-5).

UCLM (2-6) and CIT-U (2-7) are already out of contention but both are seeking a graceful exit.
