CEBU, Philippines — Defending champion Tayud bolstered its title retention bid in the midgets Category A after trouncing Cansaga, 67-45, in the 10th Mayor Alegado Cup Fiesta Basketball League in Consolacion.
Nathaniel Lauron cashed in 12 points while Mark Junray Garbo and John Brecks each scored 10 as Tayud jumped on top of the leaderboard with a clean 2-0 slate.
After racing to a 19-7 start, Tayud grew even hotter to pad its lead to 21 points after three quarters, 52-31. It was cruise control for Tayud from thereon to come up with a 22-point blowout.
In the other games in midgets Category A, James Kyle Mendoza finished with 19 points to power Lamac to a 55-50 beating of Casili, while Mhaglyn Demecillo chalked up 19 points as Tugbongan escaped past Poblacion Oriental, 106-103.
In SK Juniors Category A, Kendrick Alcover scattered 21 points to rally Casili past Lamac, 63-60. Alcover was heavily backed up by Junrey Lauron, Jun Carlos Manatad and John Ian Ouano with 31 combined points.
On the other hand, Rey Gonzaga Jr. tallied 14 points and Warren Cañete added 10 points as Casili bested Lamac, 55-46, Justin Reuyan charted 17 points as Poblacion Occidental edged Cansaga, 68-60, while Lymuel Malagar and Jan Haniel Abinales tallied 34 points across their names as Poblacion Oriental battered Tugbongan, 100-85, in the Inter-Barangay Seniors Category A.
In SK Juniors Category B, Niño Jade Dawa sizzlied with 23 points and Mark Joey Lumantao chipped in 17 markers as Panas mauled Panoypoy, 80-65.
It was the other way around in the Inter-Barangay Seniors Category B as Panoypoy upended Panas, 72-67, behind the efforts of Gerwin Herbito, John Stephen Balaba and Francis Balaba who connived for 44 points. — EBV
