CEBU, Philippines — Keenan Caburnay and Lizane Abella of Spectrum Runners Club dominated their respective divisions in the 21K half marathon of the Cebu Parklane International Hotel’s Hunat Sugbu 9 yesterday morning at the Terraces in Ayala Center Cebu.
Caburnay clinched the men’s title race with the fastest time of one hour, 15 minutes and 16 seconds. He outpaced veteran Noel Tillor, who settled for second with a time of 1:18:52, while Jerome Casinillo wound up third with 1:19:14, clocking.
Michael Icao (1:21:08) and Desederio Engbino (1:24:16) occupied the fourth and fifth spots.
In the distaff side, Abella claimed the women’s tiara after reaching the finishline in one hour, 33 minutes and 23 seconds followed by Evamie Villarin (1:34:09) at second, while Stephan Jayson (1:40:47) landed at third.
Rounding the top five finishers were Kay Razel Cundangan (1:42:12) and Sandra Soliano (1:48:19).
In the 12K action, Gemar Magdalino and Lovely Andrin reigned supreme in their respective classes.
Magdalino clocked in 43 minutes and 16 seconds , while Michael Largo (44:01) and Egdemio Avendamo (1:01:49) came in second and third place, respectively.
Andrin, on the other hand, won the women’s title with a time of 58 minutes and 43 seconds , followed by Ezel Conde (59:48) and Maria Lina Durango (1:01:50).
Meanwhile, Jonathan Polido and Marielle Estreba emerged as the fastest in the 6K category.
Polido registered a time of 21:15 to top the men’s side while by Jovan Bensig (21:25) and Earl Peonila (21:55) finished in second and third place, respectively.
Estreba, for her part, ruled the women’s division with a time of 29:13. Her closest pursuers were Eim Espina (31:30) and Jann Allison Barcenas (42:16). (FREEMAN)
