5 Cebuanos qualify for national scrabble tourney

CEBU, Philippines —  Five Cebuano players advanced to the national finals of the 2019 Philippine National Qualifying Scrabble Championship scheduled in June.

They are Jowar Ayuno, Joel Toroy, Tony Malonzo, Reynante de la Cerna and Dartspeed Eslao.

 Ayuno finished at second place in the pro category behind Odette Carmina Rio of IloIlo City.

Toroy placed third followed by Malonzo.

The list was bared during the awarding ceremony of Cebu leg of the national qualifiers last Sunday at the Robinsons Galleria Cebu.

The top performers in the national finals will earn the right to represent the Philippines in the World Scrabble Championship set this October in Goa, India.

Meanwhile, Mac Nicole Baclayon of Ramon Duterte Memorial National High School emerged as champion in the high school division, while Jangari Mayol of the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) clinched the title in the elementary level.
