CEBU, Philippines — Yaw-Yan ArDigma Cebu founder Master Benigno ‘Ekin’ Caniga Jr. wants to give children tools to stand up against bullies.
This will be Master Ekin’s goal as the annual Yaw-Yan Summer Clinic formally begins tomorrow at its headquarters situated at the fourth floor of the Coast Pacific Downtown Center along Sanciangko Street, Cebu City.
“We want to teach children discipline through martial arts and also we want them to be bully-proof,” said Master Ekin, who is alarmed by the rising number of children being bullied in schools and in the neighborhood. “We are not encouraging them to pick a fight, but at least they have a set of skills to use just in case they are being harrassed or hurt by bullies.”
Master Ekin added that they also want to contribute to the society by teaching kids discipline and at the same time raise awareness among young people about the destructive effects of illegal drugs.
Yaw-Yan is an all-out martial arts using the body as weapon. It trains students in different areas like punching, kicking, and ground fighting.
The other courses offered in the month-long clinic are arnis, mixed martial arts fundamentals, and combat self-defense.
