Horizons 101 Cebu's Vertical Run bigger prizes, tougher challenge await participants
CEBU, Philippines — Aside from bigger prizes, a tougher challenge also awaits the participants of the Taft Properties-backed Horizons 101 Cebu's Vertical Run 2019 slated on January 26 at the Horizons 101 building along General Maxilom Avenue, Cebu City.
The race, which will start at the building's ground floor and will finish at the Amenity Deck in the ninth floor, features the Full Challenge, Half Climb and Relay Race categories.
The champion in the Full Challenge will pocket P20,000 while the second and third placers will receive P15,000 and P10,000, respectively. The top three winners in the Half Climb will take home P15,000, P12,000 and P8,000, while the first three finishers in the Relay Race will get P20,000, P15,000 and P10,000.
"We are very excited as we are now giving a bigger challenge. In this edition, we want to highlight that Horizons 101 is truly 101 floors (condominium). In consonance with the completion of our Tower 2, this is the best way to announce its fulfillment and the best way to do it is by doing the Vertical Run," said Horizons 101 Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Myra Lynn Gilig.
Unlike last year's race that covers only the 55 floors of Tower 1, the contenders this time will face a tougher challenge as they will traverse and climb two towers with the completion of the 46-floor Tower 2 for a combined total of 101 floors that made the Horizons 101 the tallest condominium in Cebu today.
In the Full Challenge, the runners will traverse and climb the entire 55 floors of Tower 1 and the 46 floors of Tower 2 to cover the 101 floors. The Half Climb features the full 55 floors of Tower 1, while the Relay Race will have the full 55 floors of Tower 1 and 46 floors of Tower 2.
This concept of a race is not yet popular in Cebu but the organizers saw this an opportunity to attract runners who seek new challenges and different experience.
To excite participants, the organizers also invited Television host and adrenaline junkie Drew Arellano to grace the event as participant and host.
For the safety and security side, race director Joel Baring said a Red Cross staff will be assigned in every five floors and water stations will be designated accordingly.
Baring further explained that the elite runners will be released individually with a two-second interval while the regular runners will be released in a group of five at a one minute interval.
The organizers are targeting about 200 to 250 entries or nearly double from last years participants.
Entry fee is pegged at P1,000 for Full Challenge, P850 for Half Climb and P1,800 for Relay Race inclusive of race singlet, visor, drawstring bag, race bib with timing chip, finisher's medal and meal.
Registration is now ongoing at Taft East Gate in Cardinal Reyes Avenue, Horizons 101 in General Maxilom Avenue, Soltana Nature Residences in Marigondon, Lapu-Lapu City and at the entrance of Metro Store in Ayala. Those who are interested to join have only until January 16 to enlist.
