SAN JOSE, ANTIQUE, Philippines — For the second straight day, Central Visayas is left without any gold medal, grabbing only two silvers and four bronzes as action in the 60th Palarong Pambansa intensifies at the Binirayan Sports Complex here yesterday.

The gymnastics event concluded with CV taking away two more silvers and a bronze courtesy of the highly flexible gymnasts from the University of the Visayas.

Eunie Ginell Soronio capped her bid with a silver through the floor exercises. Moments later, she grabbed bronze in the vault.

The younger Soronio, Euricka, contributed another silver in the balance beam.

CV's three gilts so far were minted by Daniela Reggie de la Pisa, also of UV, making gymnastics the savior in what appears to be a lackluster start for the region's athletes aspiring for the overall supremacy that is already a mission impossible from the start.

In archery, Lloyd Apawan opened CV's campaign with a bronze via the secondary boys 30-meter event.

After winning a silver in arnis earlier, Thaniel Jan Sapio continued to make valuable contribution for Region-7 after handing a bronze in the elementary boys double baston event.

CV's day ended with its secondary girls netters settling for bronze in the team event after losing to Davao, 2-1.

After Davao’s Dana Mariella Abad stunned CV's Elizabeth Abarquez, 8-6, Alyza Bornea and Edel Parangan evened things up after winning in the doubles event. Zethley Mae Alferez then tried everything but could not carry CV on her shoulders in  a 4-8 setback to Rachelle Velez.

In swimming at the Evelio B. Javier pool, CV's Christiane Veloso, Gil Anton Talisaysay, Rian Marco Tirol and Johan Matthew Tubesa failed to duplicate, if not improve, their performance in the secondary boys 200-meter medley relay finals. They were one of the early favorites for gold after posting the second best time in the preliminaries, but could only finish fourth in the finale.

CV could have earned a silver in swimming had Raven Faith Alcoseba decided not to transfer to Manila and be under the powerhouse National Capital Region. She got her silver in the 400-meter freestyle. (FREEMAN)
